Dear James and Flora,
Thank you so much for the lovely comment you posted in reponse to my comment on a recent article by Brian Sewell. I only discovered it yesterday and was deeply touched that you should still remember me after all those years.
It was good seeing your pictures on your website, James, let alone your and Flora's smiling faces. Your pictures look as vibrant and beautiful as ever. I feel honoured that I had an opportunity to show them at the Holland Gallery. You're an artist of passion and honesty, a rarity in today's nasty artworld. I still greatly love a gouache painting you gave me many years ago, after one of our shows. It's of a blue barn in France. It has pride of place in the living room of Marion's and my house by the sea in Appledore, North Devon. I'll send you a picture of it in situ one day.
Meanwhile, M and I still live above the gallery, which is now run by Dr Robert Travers in a very different way: he sold his first £1m painting (Kokoschka self-portrait) recently and tends to go for mostly famous names, the opposite of what we used to do. However, he has to make a living from it, which we never did, as both Marion and I had other jobs to support us.
Fortunately, Robert continues to represent my late husband's estate, whose work you can see on my very amateurish website www.cyrilmann.co.uk I have few of my husband's paintings left by now, but then he died over 30 years ago. Marion and I are well into our seventies. I miss the Holland Gallery days and especially being with lovely artists like you. We send you much love.

Dear Flora and James,

I've lost your phone number etc! Please could you both come to 12 Rue Dr Martinais for a little housewarming evening at 6 p.m on Monday 28th June? We'd love to see you and hope you are able to come. Lots of love and hope all well, sandy and Dennis

Dear James,

Thanks for your recent message, sorry about the delay in getting back to you. We are off today to Nepal for two weeks. The next time in France will be Half Term so we can meet up then and hopefully you will have had time to paint the house. Thanks for the photos of the cyclists, it reminded of all those hills.

Best Wishes,

Alan Davies
