I'm not John, but I would venture to say that in many advanced countries, disfigurement and disability, whether from birth or otherwise, results in permanent pension or subsidy for the needs of life. Perhaps the Chinese also have a system like this, or perhaps it provides too little. Then again, perhaps SOME of these individuals are well taken-care-of and beg to supplement their income. This is becoming more and more popular among Americans - to dress in bummy clothes and hold up a sign that says "Will Work For Food" - however, on occasion (certainly not always), when these individuals are presented with a bag of food, they are clearly not happy. This section involves "poor, needy, begging, CONS, and the giving of alms", so certainly there is some sleazy activity, but by and large, a giver need not concern him/herself with such things, since it is better to give to one con-person and two needy people than not to give at all. Sorry for the tangential answer. Bennown.

John, there seems to be a very high percent of disability with limbs and disfigurment- Is it like this all over the world or is there a higher percent of this in China and if so, why?
