Abandoned places often give me a strong emotional feeling when I get there. Personally, I almost instantly start to think in scenarios "What went wrong here"? Sometimes, the fate is known, but most of the times you don't know and making guesses simply doesn't make sense. One can just put a rubberstamp on it saying "structural changes - case closed" and get it out of the mind.

But, occasionally I get the feeling of someone without relatives who died while sleeping. Silently and missed by nobody. Nobody interested in taking over from the dead and the place just silently deteriorates.
