The tall headframe at Polhemsgruvan outside Ställdalen is somewhat a spartanic experience - at the fashion of the time. Plain, raw gray concrete with no bells and whistles whatsoever. Well - there is a very rusty and almost disintegrated iron-symbol on the roof, some 50 meters above ground, but that's all.
The mine opened in 1958 at the peak of the iron-ore bonanza. Due to low iron contens in the ore, the mine didn't survive the first recession in the 1960s and was closed in 1967 after just 9 years of service.
