The head frame at Nygruvan in Nordmarksberg is a clear landmark with its characteristic shape. It was built in the 1940’s over an inclined shaft in order to gain access to ore under vast amounts of loose rock. However, the new shaft project ended up in a failure, and the shaft was closed in 1954 after a serious accident, involving a fatality. The mining activity in Nordmarksberg ended in 1962, but the entire site, with buildings and machinery, is very well preserved.
