Bålsjöverket (Bålsjö concentration plant) was a cornerstone in the grand modernization plan of the Norberg mines and was finished in 1960. The ore was brought up through a 1.2km elevated tunnel from an underground crushing plant at 350m depth, where all major Norberg mines were connected underground with large systems of drifts.
A seemingly good thought, but like all other “modern” ventures in the Norberg area it all ended up in as a giant fiasco and the plant was closed after just a short time of operation. Since the closure in 1967, the plant has been used by the state railways to produce gravel. That activity ended in the 1990’s and the plant is today closed and abandoned.
