please if anyone has apicture of the wanderer contact me charles augustas lamar cunningham IV.i'm related to mills b lane of savannah.the current painting of the wanderer hangs in the ralph mark gilbert civil rights museum in savannah and after funding for the ships of the sea museum was eliminated in the 80's and after the deathof my grandmother who was curater it became property of the city of savannah and given to the civil rights museum.now you would think that it is the mona lisa.you cant take a picture of it or get within ten feet of it.i would like a reproduction of it and can share many artifacts that i possess.i have manifests, swords, and the like from my namesake.i wish to help in potraying charles lamar as a great conferderate, who died 4 days after lee surrendered trying to preserve a way of life.

chris according to the story an documents i have the wanderer was warned coming into savannah harbor with the slaves.they sailed to jekyll island to the spot of the old wanderer hotel the slaves were disembarcted and they walked them to a friends plantation in south carolina. charles lamar sailed into the savannah harbor with a empty load where he was promptly arrested and the boat confiscated.he later bought the boat back on the courthouse steps of savannah for one dollar proclaimimg that it was his boat and dont bid against me.he challenged the guy who confiscated his boat to a duel and killed him on liberty street here in savannah.after that he was put in charge of a calvarly unit and was killed four days after lee surrendered on a bridge in millegdeville,ga on his grave marker in the old confederate cemetary here in savannah it say the last upstanding man killed during the civil war..

Dear Charles Augustus Lamar Cunningham VI, I am researching to find the exact location of where 170 of the Wanderer slaves were disembarked on a "relative's plantation". Would you have any information about the exact location? Any idea of the relationship between CAL Lamar and Col Thomas G. Lamar? Thank you

Family tradition in my grandmother's family is that her father was a secret owner of the Wanderer. We have a painting of the Wanderer and plan to make copies if anyone is interested.

I LIVED ON JEKYLL ISLAND FOR MANY YEARS (1971-2003). I THINK THERE MIGHT BE A MIS-QUOTE IN THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS ABOUT JACKSONVILLE, GA. THE WANDERER SLAVE SHIP SAILED TO JEKYLL ISLAND, GA. WHERE IT UNLOADED 400+ SLAVES. UP UNTIL THE LATE 1970'S-EARLY 1980'S THERE WAS A MOTEL ON THE BEACHSIDE (on 711 N.Beachview Drive) NAMED THE WANDERER MOTEL. AT THE VERY SOUTHERN ENTERANCE OF THE WANDERER MOTEL WAS A U.S. HISTORIC REGISTRY SIGN THAT TOLD THE STORY OF THE SLAVE SHIP. IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN JUST OFF THE SHORE OF WHERE THE MOTEL WAS IS WHERE THE SLAVES WERE UNLOADED. MY GRANDMOTHER AND LATER MY MOTHER WORKED AS ACCOUNTANTS AND BOOKEEPERS (1960'S-2003) FOR MOTEL PROPERTIES, INC (MPI) WHICH BUILT AND OWNED THE WANDERER MOTEL. WE LIVED ONE BLOCK AWAY (but within sight)OF THE MOTEL.

Jimmy, You will find a model of the "Wanderer" at the Ships of the Sea Museum in Savannah. I believe the model was donated by Mills B. Lane . Cousin Malachi Haughton, IV, Jacksonville, Florida
(maternal grandson of Lamar Lewis and who knows what to L.Q.C. Lamar)

I am also related to Gazaway and Charles they are way back in my tree. I am from Savannah Ga., and I have an amazing painting of this ship in my living room. One or both of these fellows are burried in the laurel grove cemetary in Savannah. I would also like to find a print of this ship as my father will not part with this painting

I have seen a picture of a three masted square rigger said to be the Wanderer, of which I am suspicious. Your image more closely resembles what I have always thought the Wanderer to look like. What is the origin of your image? Is it an accurate portrayal of the slave ship Wanderer? Anxiously away your response. Thank you.

Many thanks to Charles Stump for giving us this info about his ancestor being captain of this famous ship. His ancestor was with the Union forces as they had confiscated the ship for their use during the Civil War. I encourage others to attach info such as this to other photos in this album. We will all be the richer for it. Thanks again, Charles. Julian Williams.

My GG Grandfather Captained this ship during the Civil War. During that War it spent most of its "land" time at Key West, FL. which was a crucial blockade point.
