Before Peter Early was Governor of Georgia (1813-1815) he was a Superior Court Judge at Jacksonville, Ga.(1811-1813). He tried many interesting cases at the old town. Before the courthouse was built "court" had to be held in the homes of the citizens. Sometimes it was held in the home of one accused of breaking the law. Imagine being tried in your own living room! John Peterson and Mark Pridgen, prominent citizens, were called before the bar of justice in their own homes at Jacksonville, Ga.!
