Convergence Testing

Convergence Testing
Convergence Testing
for Projectors
and Rear Projection HDTVs

Here are 4 quick test patterns that will help you determine the quality of convergence on your display device.
You can click on the pattern for a larger image if needed, or you may want to make your browser smaller
and drag the pattern around your screen, as convergence can vary from center to edge.

Also, consider that lenses can result in optical issues that may look like convergence issues,
these are often seen at the edges and in corners as soft focus or purple fringing (CA).
A quick test for optical issues is to use green text pattern focused at the center,
then compare how it looks at the center vs edges/corners.

Pattern 1: Horizontal Convergence Test:
You should see parallel horizontal lines with the colors aligned and no spaces between colors.

Pattern 2: Vertical Convergence Test:
You should see parallel vertical lines with the colors aligned and no spaces between colors.

Pattern 3:  Mixed Convergence Test
Here you should see a center square surrounded by the other colors of squares.
The squares should not overlap and the colors should be distinct.

Pattern 4: White and Green Single Pixel Text
Since white requires all colors to be converged white text is a good test of convergence.
Compare to the green text that only uses a single color.
Always focus on green as red and blue have extreme wavelenghts.
