This is gonna sound weird but I like your colour version better. I have never been a tv watcher so I don't know of any comparison in that genre and I about only watched Monty Python and the Three Stooges as a kid with some Marx Brothers and Abbott and Costello thrown in so that doesn't fit. The missing floor tiles give a feel of a broken relationship in the people walking sort of like missing pieces.
