This is just a propaganda town built by the North Koreans so that visitors to the JSA will think there's people living in abundance in North Korea. They even have propaganda being spewed by loudspeaker 24/7. You can hear it the whole time you're up on the tour. It's crazy. That flag is reportedly the largest in the world. The North Koreans have increased it's size historically so that it's always larger than the South Korean flag flown on their side of the border. They're nuts.
I've never seen movement in the place, and looked over into North Korea from the air hundreds of times from the air (U.S. Army helicopter). Its even more eerie further towards the North... no movement, no anything. There has got to be literally thousands of North Koreans living in South Korea, as there are just too many remote places to "ease" through. 'Wish we'd take our troop of the DMZ... (finally they're slowly moving troops further south), the manpower up on the line has been a waste of tax dollars..
