This is a "Dondo" talking drum which can be found in Kamerun, Senegal, Gambia and Mali and also in India. The "talking" is done by pressing and releasing the chords during play by taking it under the shoulder and pressing with the upper arm. Drums like this appear in various sizes with different names, for example the "dundun" of the Yorube in Nigeria.

Die "Dondo" ist als "sprechende Trommel" bekannt, da der Spieler sie unter den Arm klemmt und durch Druck auf die Seile beim Spielen die Stimmung des Fells verändert. Instrumente wie diese finden sich in Afrika und Asien, vor allem aber bei den Yorube in Nigeria.
