You are very right Elizabeth.
On helping, a friend of mine had a GREAT idea! Instead of "going downtown" this new years, we are all going to someone's home for new year's celebrations. That extra cash that we would all spend for an over-commercialized new year's night out will go into a collection. This will be donated to the red cross, the following day.
Let's also hope that the financial support and generosity of others does not fade out in a few weeks when this is "old news". People affected by this will need sustained support for some time. We should also watch our local governments and encourage them to support those affected - that's one place that I'd like to see some of my tax dollars go!
A child in our neighborhood (14-16) got 120.00 for Cristmas, to spend on Boxing day. She donated the entire amount to the Red Cross. We have quite alot to learn from our children.

We're just people looking at photographs which is not nearly the same thing as being there. If you want to help in their recovery, consider World Vision, Samaritan's Purse, or the Red Cross.

Isn't it ironic that there are tourists (I suppose they are tourists..it appears to be a motel/resort or something with a bunch of caucasian people) on the far bank SUNNING themselves on sun chairs while locals on the foreground stand amongst the wreckage. The body of water between the two groups seems like a moat. On the resort side, it's as if nothing happened.
I'd be in the foreground helping where I could - even stealing towels from the hotel to give out to locals with small children soaked to the skin.......
In waht ways can a normal person, like myself, help from half a world away? Aynone have any ideas????
