Arrival at Vietri
After a journey from Mergellina that took 100 minutes, the town's small railway station -
on the old line between Naples and Salerno - and referred to by the Ferrovia del Stato as
"Vietri sul Mare - Amalfi".
Note the simple choice of platforms...
Outside the station
As well as this taxi rank, immediate outside the ticket office,
there are also bus stops at the foot of the station approach -
used by several services that run along the Amalfi Coast, and
others which head inland - such as the CSTP line's route # 4
(very convenient if going from Vietri to the ruins of Pompeii!)
Right from the start
Even up near the station there's no doubting that this is a town famed for its ceramic wares!
Vietri's tourist information office
Not a glamorous building, but more than made up for by the very helpful staff
The road out of town...
The Information office stands beside the Strada Statale (SS163), which leads
(off to the right in this view) to the adjacent village suburbs of Benincasa,
Albori and Raito, and then on along the AC towards Amalfi, Positano etc...
Route into the old town centre
The town's pleasantly-ordinary high street - Corso Umberto I
...first lesson, back the car out of the office
