Each year on or around July 26 the six communities of the island of Ischia, together with its neighbours in the Bay of Naples, celebrate the feast of
Saint Anna with a competition for decorated barges held in the bay of Cartaromana, below the Castello Aragonese at Ischia Ponte.
Construction work starts a week or so beforehand, and after the judging is over the evening concludes with a re-enactment of the burning of the Castello,
followed by a spectacular display of fireworks.
