Still as lively as ever, but the market - and indeed the entire 'flavour' of the Campo
de'Fiori district - seem to be changing, like an unfurling demonstration of Gresham's Law...

Hard to tell which is cause and which effect: these days fewer Romans can be seen doing
their daily shop, with fewer of the stalls catering to their needs, and instead there
are many more tourists, mostly on the lookout for cheap presents and souvenirs.

Although we've part of the problem ourselves, as regular annual visitors for some time
now, the poster for a Fox TV series, adorning the faux facade of a palazzo under 'restauro' -
probably into short-let rentals for visitors - appears to sum up the situation rather
well... "Desperate" !
