The Piaggio Ape - 60th anniversary

December 2008 marks sixty years since the Italian scooter firm Piaggio began building the three-wheeled Ape.

Its name means bee - a reference to not only the noise of the original 50cc twostroke engine but also the scooter on which it was based, the Vespa - a wasp in Italian!
