:: Ischia's thermal spa parks ::
Volcanic activity far underground warms mineral water springs that feed the many pools
and water features in Ischia's spa gardens.
There are others, but the best known are Negombo (near Lacco Ameno), Poseidon (on Citara
Beach, outside Forio) and Castiglione - on the road between Ischia Porto and Casamicciola
At most the season usually starts at Easter, and runs until late October.
:: The city of Ischia ::
The Comune of Ischia - which shares its name with the island - is the only
one of the six on the island to have City status.
.
It's comprised of two parts: historic Ischia Ponte - which grew up at the foot
of the Castello Aragonese - and, around the island's main harbour, Ischia Porto
:: Casamicciola ::
One of the main thermal spa centres and the second port of the island of Ischia
:: Lacco Ameno ::
The thermal spa resort of Lacco Ameno stands at the western end of Ischia's north coast.
With an archaeological museum whose collection includes a Greek wine vessel inscribed
with a drinking song that dates back almost 3000 years, Lacco is also where several of
the island's most renowned spa hotels can be found.

:: Forio ::
The town of Forio, at the heart of its Comune on the western side of the island,
has a small port that offers year-round hydrofoil connections with Naples.
In the C14th and 15th the inhabitants built a series of large towers to defend themselves from Saracen
pirates. The largest of them all, Il Torrione - just off the main square - is today a civic art museum.
In the late 40s Forio was a popular escape for an international group of artists and writers - among
them W.H. Auden, Christopher Isherwood, Tennessee Williams, and Truman Capote.
More recently, the area has become more widely popular, thanks to both the magnificent
beach at Citara and a particularly pleasant microclimate.
The Comune also includes the village of Panza, often visited by the amazing band of the army's Bersaglieri
regiment, and - on the Zara headland - the wonderful gardens created by Lady Walton at "La Mortella".

:: Serrara Fontana ::
The comune of Serrara Fontana on Ischia extends from the coastal village of Sant'Angelo, and all the way up the
southern slopes of Monte Epomeo to its two main towns - Serrara and Fontana - high above.
