:: Almost all about Ischia ::
.
.
.
.
Lots of pictures and a little information about Ischia - the largest of the islands in the Bay of Naples, and our home since 2003.
.
Most of the images on this page lead to a themed gallery: to open one, just click on it.
.
When viewing those photos, the 'Original' size will show most detail, but may sometimes take a little longer to load....
:: Procida ::
.
.
.
Although separated from Ischia by only a narrow channel, the small island of Procida
nevertheless has a character and (for much of the year) tranquillity all of its own.
Known best perhaps as the location where much of "Il Postino" was filmed, the island
has also featured in several other movies, including "The Talented Mister Ripley".

:: In and around Naples ::
Neapolis, the 'new' city built by the ancient Greeks almost 3000 years ago, stands
in a wonderfully sheltered position in the panoramic curve of a beautiful Bay.
Once home to Kings of Naples, and today the chief city of the Campania region,
its status as the modern capital of southern Italy is entirely unofficial!
.
Crowded, grubby and gritty it may be - but no less fascinating for that....
:: Campania ::
Open this gallery for the Greek temples at Paestum, the Roman ruins in Oplontis,
Herculaneum, Pompeii, Boscoreale, Puteoli and elsewhere in the Campei Flegrei,
plus modern cities such as Naples, Sorrento, Caserta, Pozzuoli and Salerno
.
And of course just a few from the island of Ischia, our home since 2003...

:: What's where in southern Italy ::
A map or two that may be useful if exploring this part of the country...
:: Rome and elsewhere in Lazio ::
As well as Italy's glorious capital, the Regione of Lazio has plenty of other attractions
for visitors - from inland hill towns to the islands of Ventotene and Ponza.
.
Rome pictures are from two dozen trips made since 1996 - initially 35mm slides and from
London, then digital... mostly from Ischia.

Once there, use 'next' and 'previous' - or try the slideshow button, at top right!

:: Puglia ::
This is the region that forms the ankle and heel of the Italian boot, with a long
Mediterranean coastline that faces out onto the Adriatic and Ionian seas and runs
down to the Gulf of Taranto.
Highlights include the trulli - bizarrely shaped peasant homes - of Alberobello, cathedral
cities north of Bari such as Trani and, in the south, the gloriously baroque city of Lecce.
Photos from several visits since 2001 : after the first two maps, click on any of the other
thumbnails to go to collections from each particular area or theme...
:: Only a taste of Sicily ::
Galleries of photos from just a few of many delights - cities such as Palermo,
Catania, Syracusa, Agrigento and Cefalu, and small islands like Favignana,
Pantelleria, Lipari and other Aeolians...

Don't put your daughter on the stage,
The profession is overcrowded
And the struggle's pretty tough....
She should worry!
