_MG_7987 I beg your pardon

30 days old. Lens was about 3 inches away from him and he stayed put. (The B & H catalog says that minimum focus distance is 7.9 inches, but I just tested minimum distance and it's more like 3" or even closer*.) I continue to be amazed by the wonderful squelching of the internal flash on the Canon dslrs. Although the EXIF doesn't show when flash is used, it has been used on just about all of these mantid images. *Note: The 7.9" shown in the B & H specs is correct - it's not from the front of the lens - it's the measurement from the subject to the "film plane" (or in the case of a digital, I imagine, the sensor.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
1/125s f/20.0 at 60.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original

May be your best mantis shot to date. It looks rather intelligent in a scary way...:-O.

3 inches is pretty close and you got a relly sharp focus on it's face!
