DSLRs don't have the same deep depth of field that our compact digicams have, so you often have parts out of focus that we'd prefer to be in focus. In the case of this image, shot at f/2.2 with the Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens and a 1.3x converter, the EYE was in perfect focus...the beard wasn't. When I applied sharpening the beard looked bad, so I decided to use a bit of buZZ on the entire image and then bring forth the eye detail from a layer below. There is no EXIF info shown because I used the demo Noiseware noise reduction program and saved from it (doesn't save EXIF)first. Available incandescent light, no flash, taken in RAW and converted with the Adobe raw converter in Photoshop.
