20120922_110737 Eastern Box Turtle

it was basking in the middle of the road as I approached my house. Fortunately, I had the phone with me and I was able to stop the car to get out and shoot. The Eastern Box Turtle is the official state reptile of North Carolina and Tennessee.

I hope you moved it, I would hate to think of it becoming road kill! I have never seen a turtle in the wild. I am sure all we have here are the desert tortoise but I have only seen them in zoos.
