P1070657 Moss and Orange Blossoms

The Spanish Moss hanging from the branches is not really moss, it is a bromeliad. Learn about it here: http://www.communityonline.com/local/culture/spanishmoss/spanishmoss3.htm

The residents of Fort Federica could enjoy the delicious fragrance of orange blossoms, but their fruit, we were told, was none too flavorful.

"Georgia's fate was decided in 1742 when Spanish and British forces clashed on St. Simons Island. Fort Frederica's troops defeated the Spanish, ensuring Georgia's future as a British colony. Today, the archeological remnants of Frederica are protected by the National Park Service." Source: http://www.nps.gov/fofr/

This is a great closeup showing how interesting the moss is and the flowers scattered about make it very pretty, kind of like flowers in curly hair!
