We wish we would have had more time with the residents of Sapelo Island. Most of our information came from our bus driver/guide, who wasn't too talkative during our tour, 80% of which was spent bouncing along the very rough roads, while trees scraped the sides and tops of the school bus.

Our visit to the R. J. Reynold's mansion was cut short because they had cleaned it for expected guests and they didn't want us messing it up. State budget shortfalls were very evident in the shabby condition of the facility with the beautiful reflecting pool our front half filled and clogged with debris. The handrail leading down the very steep steps to the basement one lane bowling alley, pulled out of the wall as one visitor grasped it. I couldn't find the information online for how much it costs to stay at the mansion, but I would say the money would be wiser spent elsewhere.
