Tired Mourning Cloak Butterfly

(Thank you, Rachel, for the identification.) I couldn't get the whole thing in focus handheld with my 300mm lens in macro mode, so I went inside and grabbed the LX3. This must have been a very tired butterfly because it didn't take off when I moved in to get close enough for a reasonable shot. Still had to be cropped a lot.

He looks like he's made of velvet.
I haven't seen anything like this in Ohio.

He must be tired to have his wings splayed out like that. How fortunate you were to get a pic. of this lovely one!

It looks so regal! That Mahogany Color is amazing. Wish we had these up here!
