The International Freedom Festival is a joint celebration of Detroit, Michigan in the United States and Windsor, Ontario in Canada of which the main event is a fireworks display in honor of Independence Day and Dominion Day. Held on the Wednesday before Dominion Day (though in previous years it was scheduled between the two holidays). Fireworks are synchronised to fire simultaniously from three barges in the Detroit River. This has been a tradition since 1959 and is one of the largest displays of fireworks in North America.
