On September 25, 2009, communities, tribes and schools across the state of Montana observed American Indian Heritage Day through various activities, events and celebrations. In Helena, as a kick off to the annual Last Chance Community Powwow at the Lewis & Clark County fairgrounds, Helena-area students watched and participated in song and dance demonstrations in celebration of American Indian Heritage Day and Indian Education for All, the state’s commitment to provide all students with an opportunity to learn about the distinct and unique heritage of American Indians.
