Peterson Saskatchewan "No one ever parks on Main Street anymore"

Peterson SK on Hwy # 5 west is one more town with many photographic opportunities. The doors are locked and the windows boarded up for the time being, but it will not be to long before the doors will be broken down and the old buildings will be ruined. The old church has got a new coat of paint by someone that can't see it go, but the paint tray remains near the gate (maybe they will come to do some "touch ups") ???? If you listen you can still hear the kids of the 70's playing in that tree house!!! Strange thing but there are NO sidewalks in town!!! Enjoy...Mike

Hi Mike I went to school for a year in Peterson.I Live in Hamilton Ontario now....is it ever strange seeing what's left.My aunts name was Frances Rychuk and my uncle was Nick Rychuk.They had a farm there and then moved into a house on the main road.They had 5 or 7 kids.My moms name was Alexandria Rychuk.Do you have more pictures??

Hi Mike, What I see is incredible in comparrison to what I remember growing up. I was an alter boy in the Ukrainian Church from time to time. I clearly remember Jerome Felix's store, and getting a hair cut at the barber shop (can't remember his name, but he wore deer skin leather shorts and drove a Model A coupe). My Uncle Harry Ewanishin lived in, I believe, the first house on the north side on the west end of main street. I initially grew up on a farm 2 miles west and 2 miles north of Highway 2 & 5 on the way to Saskatoon; then moved into Meacham and finished high school at Viscount in 1968.

Hi, I cannot believe my eyes, My Auntie Jenette and Uncle Grant and Cousin Laurie probably have the only houses still livable in town. Its really cool seeing childhood memories. SusanRamsay

Mike, That is My Grandfather's grain elevator. Do you live nearby? Is it still standing? Did you happen to go inside the old building at the back?

very nice - i grew up in Meacham but my grandparents are buried in the Peterson Cemetery - can you inform me as to how I might be able to access those records? I was pleasantly surprised to find this site - you have done a terrific job. thanks - Ken Saretzky

Hello Mike, what a surprise to be forwarded your gallery photos of a town I grew up in. I am living in BC but still regularly visit relatives who still live there, not in town as few people live there, but on the farm Yes, I went to school in Peterson when it was a two room school. many happy memories of bazaar dinners, ball games and Xmas concerts at the hall. How did you come across this place to take such eloquent photos?
