Demolishing History

I'm not one to rant on about lot's of things, but hear me out on this one.
The City of moose Jaw is going through a redevelopment stage......
Yup and you guessed it, down comes the old up goes the new.
The Brunswick Hotel (Left) Nevada Nickels Hotel (just beside the Brunswick) and The Royal Hotel (across the street) are being removed.
These historic hotels are over a 100 years old.
Yes parts will be saved to rebuild historic River Street with new hotels and shops at a cost only a few may know.
But in the past few years we have lost a few grand old places, to fire or the wrecking ball....Moose Jaw history is fading fast.
Yes I have been told the buildings are in bad shape in the foundations so they must come down.
Repairs are to costly...yup we have seen it all before, I just hope the new places will look as grand as these old
Hotels do...time will tell, let's see if the developers can bring back the look of the old street with modern design......

A terrific and dramatic composition .

Damn that sucks. I hate hearing about that. I just hope they don't find out about the many old houses and ghost towns. Lets just hope corporations stay chained to their Urban prisons.

And I have said it before, but I just cannot understand why they must bulldoze your history like this, sure repairs might be expensive (but I bet that's just a cover story for the developers), but its your heritage being swept away - you're not short of space in Canada, surely they can build new stuff without flattening the old? Its good that you're capturing this for posterity, but you shouldn't have to....

They could have at least saved the mural wall!!!!! I hate it that they do this. Our history gets destroyed everyday.

I'd say you got that new lens in the nick of time to capture this.

I totally hear you Mike...Moose will never be the same.

Yep, the old ones lasted 100 years, the new ones will be lucky to make it 40 years.
But that's the society we built, buy one day, throw out the next.
Don't get me started on Walmart...

At least it will live on in your image
