Ellen My sincere congratulations on a group of really beautiful photos, and my thanks for sharing them on line as well! These certainly are proof you can use off-the-shelf equipment (and a darned good eye), and don't need tens of thousands of dollars of state-of-the-art equipment for very good pictures to share. We just returned from St. Vincent- no large fish, but tons of quillfin blennies, seahorses and frogfish, shy and golden hamlets, etc. etc. LOTS of photogenic critters, and a super dive operation that is service- and critter-oriented. (On a recent REEF survey, we found more species on a one week survey than anywhere else in the Caribbean- Bonaire HAD been no. 1.) I think you and your camera would love it! Ellen, what beautiful shots! My husband and I are Bonaire addicts (going on 10 yrs) and love underwater photography so I was really glad to find your sight. I'm thinking of upgrading to a digital set-up but could not find much info on shooting macro, but I have to say your shots are great! I will continue to keep your webpage on my favorites for photo updates. Also loved the picture of the frogfish with his mouth open. I've seen them do this but have failed to get that perfect in-focus shot, although I do have a shot of a flounder with his mouth wide open. The wonders and beauty of the sea will always amaze me.

Thanks for the compliments Andre and Nacho. These photos were taken over the last five months. The diving conditions don't change very much here in Bonaire other than sometimes there is more current and poorer visibility than normal. No special dive equipment. As for the sunlight, I usually do most of my dives in the late afternoon. For the colors...most of the shots are auto leveled in Adobe Photoshop Elements, the colors straight out of the camera are too green. Ellen, Absolutely fantastic images. I was simply astounded when I came across your gallery. You truly have a "photographers eye". The quality of the images is amazing. I must ask: What were the dive conditions like? Did you capture all of these images in one day or over a period of time? Were you using any special dive equipment or just the usual gear? Some of the images look as though they were taken in an aquarium (I'm not slighting you, just a comparision). How did you manage to get the sunlight just right and the colors just right? If you have any special technique or method please post a dissertation on your methods. Andre B.

Simply, INCREDIBLE. These are the best pictures I've ever seen with a digital camera. I have a P1 and neve got so close to this quality. You should write how you did it!

Thank you, Steven and George. Steven, the type of camera that I used (Sony DSC P1) is found in the title of the gallery. Most of the photos were shot betwen 10 -60ft. using only the internal flash. The Red Sea looks like a fabulous place for diving and underwater photography.
