Pipestem Knob (elev. 2,960 ft.) is the highest summit amid the tablelands of western Tallery Mountain in eastern Summers County. Rising 500 feet above the surrounding tablelands, the summit was a landmark along the native trail which passed through the Pipestem, WV, area. Rising steeply but cresting distinctively in a somewhat flattened summit, the peak was a recognizable landmark to prehistoric travelers. Pipestem Knob is located within the boundaries of Pipestem Resort State Park, and its level crest is now mounted by a stout observation tower -- among the highlights of the visit to the state park. The forty-foot tower elevates the vista to 3,000 feet above sea level.
