Storm cloud, Kerala backwaters, India, 2008

A few minutes after making the preceding image, a magnificent storm cloud gathered behind a stand of palm trees on the horizon. It moves towards us through the glow of a setting sun with explosive energy.

Thanks, Christine, for this observation. You are right -- travel can bring us to places where nature works in ways quite differently, and travel photography can give us a chance to express those differences. Likewise, as you note, the appearance and behavior of people also can differ strikingly from place to place, yet human beings everywhere share similar human values, as I discuss in Gallery Three of this cyberbook.

This is the kind of experience that makes travel so fulfilling, to be allowed to feel something different, nature expressing itself in a way that we are not accustomed to. The same can be said of people, but the basics are the same for all human beings.
