My birthday this year was an amazing experience. Among other things we went to Kyoto and were entertained by a maiko-san.

A maiko-san is a geishe in training who has mastered the arts of Japanese dance.
Once there were 1000s of geisha in Kyoto.

There are just over 100 geisha and around 80 of maiko in Kyoto now.
