I just love the stunning photography here. The textures, the colours, the details, the framing of the pergola, the human interest. I'm rapidly becoming a fan of your work Brent. -Najinsky

Lydia, don't worry as I could tell you were just commenting on one aspect of the image. The pergola is nice and has an interesting history. It looks old, but the original 1909 structure that was built to cover the entrance to "the world's most luxurious underground bathrooms" (so they claimed) was recreated recently after a truck cut the corner and smashed it up. The bathrooms that were all the hype did their last flush in the 40's when they were covered over.
Penny, I haven't read the Glass Castle but will check it out- thanks :-)

Gee, people. I know what Lydia meant and I thought so, too. It is a nice structure. I do feel sorry for the homeless man. It is possible to have both thoughts. dtallakson

Ummm... gee. I really wasn't making a homeless statement at all. I was actually commenting on how pretty the structure is. No hidden meaning about anyone's way of life at all. ~Lydia

Have you read "The Glass Castle" by any chance - by Jeannette Walls?

I know just how you feel Penny, as I have a lady like the one you describe sitting in a park across from my office almost all the time. I'm trying to figure how I can help a little, yet she somehow doesn't seem like she wants to be approached. It's no proper life for her to be living- very sad situation.

I have taken notice of one particular homeless lady who hangs out near my office building on Seventh Ave in NYC. I have brought her scarves and coffee and such. I don't know if she stays there at night, but no matter how pretty the place looks, it is dismal to see them there when you know that's where they spend most of their time.

Lydia, WOW! I can imagine this as being a nice place to stroll through occasionally but a place to live!..... Think again! -mcbit

Thanks folks :-)
Yes the pergola is beautiful Lydia, but hardly a nice place to stay. It is damp and cold under there, and I noticed when I brought this poor man some food he was needing to stash his valuables down in the bottom of his bag when he slept. I expect when it gets really cold and nasty he goes to a city shelter if they aren't all full- I certainly hope so.

That's a beautiful place he lives in. ~Lydia

This is a wonderful composition Brent. I like that you subtly caught the second person at the end of the walk. Unfortunately homelessness is too often not the "side less seen".
