Duality #1

I'd say the greatest challenge I face in this lifetime is reconciling dualities. This has been an issue for me for as long as I can remember. I suspect that a lot of my art has focused on dualities without my being aware of it. Back when I taught watercolor painting to adults, I created a teaching guide that I called "Art Is a Secret We Keep from Ourselves." If I were to examine all my photographs through this lens, I'm sure I'd see countless examples of dualities of which I was unaware.

But today I am ready to tackle this issue head-on, and this image is the beginning. From now on I'm going to try to be more conscious of dualities as I see them. Hopefully this is the first of a new series of work, a series that cannot be rushed but must evolve organically.

When I created this image early this morning I had not yet seen Sebas Veldhuisen's marvelous gallery of diptychs called "Valencia." Enny sent me his link privately after seeing my Duality #1 image. I am grateful to her for pointing me in Sebas' direction; his work is wonderful. CLICK HERE to see it. And there is another gallery I'd like to recommend if you find diptychs interesting: Colin Clarke's "Film Doublets." CLICK HERE to see them. There are as many different ways to use the diptych format as there are photographers on PBase!

Yesterday marked another first for me: my first submission to the Thursday Totally Informal Transglobal Challenge. CLICK HERE to see it.

It doesn't look like you have any problem seeing dualities these days,Patricia.
Wonderfully seen and juxtaposed.

Very nice diptych of shapes and colors. Works really well. It is like a visual rhyme.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Patricia. Wonderful concept for the dualities.
When butter was made 'down on the farm', we churned and churned that cream, until you could eventually see the buttermilk separate from 'the butter'. Then, after a little more of the process, we had that 'pat' of butter - maybe two hands full of it. At last, using small wooden tools we created a wonderfully decorated 'pat', usually placed on a very nice china plate.
This is a VERY long-winded way of acknowledging how you continually bring us new images and ideas, and spark the PBase community into new actions.
Your selective color use in duality is a wonderful idea, as is the work from Sebas who decided to try the DIGITAL diptych approach with coincidental angles, after writing me about my old film doublet efforts.
I think it is wonderful that we can extend and improve the previous notions to the present and no doubt into the future. I look forward to the next 'extensions'. ~Vote~

More than just duality i find polarity in life on earth.
And i realise, it's ALWAYS there.
Think i can't find anything without it!

Since I have met you and Phil, I think my brain is going to explode. This is so interesting. I can't wait to see more.

What an intriguing idea. It opens up all sorts of new avenues for thought. And not just for photography either, but for life in general. Thank you, Ms. Genius!

Lovely black/white and selective colour. I was making paper snowflakes with my classes just last week.
