"Last night the rain spoke to me" by Mary Oliver

Last night
the rain
spoke to me
slowly, saying

what joy
to come falling
out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again

in a new way
on the earth!
That's what it said
as it dropped,

smelling of iron,
and vanished
like a dream of the ocean
into the branches

and the grass below.
Then it was over.
The sky cleared.
I was standing

under a tree.
The tree was a tree
with happy leaves,
and I was myself,

and there were stars in the sky
that were also themselves
at the moment,
at which moment

my right hand
was holding my left hand
which was holding the tree
which was filled with stars

and the soft rain—
imagine! imagine!
the long and wondrous journeys
still to be ours.

Visually stunning, Patricia. I love how you have given us this organic presence bathed in ephemeral starlight. Beautifully illustrates the poem.

!How could I possibly add to the below? Only that this is galactic in its impact, it is huge, and when seen in original, the detail that remains of you, humanises it. The perfect balance...afterall, is that not what the universe is about? Rgds, K

I see in your beautiful
work of art, how interconnected
we all are. The rain, the stars, the
trees and mankind are all part a
larger world view. Beautiful work and
I love the poem.

An amazing image, Patricia -- an abstract, incongruous evocation of a lovely poem. The image matches it by leaving room for the viewer to fill in the details. It is incredible how nature itself offers its limbs, trunks, and branches to this abstracted symbol of humanity, giving it arteries and veins, and breathing the stuff of life into it. The poem pays homage to nature's way, and so does your beautiful image.
