A mirror of my Self

After such an emotional week, I needed some time out. That's what abstracts do for me--give me breathing space. I was going to tell you what I'd photographed here, but decided against it. Maybe you need time out too. I will share a quote by Minor White, though.

"When I looked at things for what they are I was fool enough to persist in my folly and found that each photograph was a mirror of my Self." - Minor White, "Mirrors, messages, manifestations" by Minor White. Millerton, New York: Aperture, 1969.

Not quite sure what to make of this one. It's fun trying to figure out what it is (tinkerer's perspective), how the photo was taken (techie photo buff mode), and just look (artist-philosopher mode). So far the last is winning. 8-)

An image full of detail, Patricia, that speaks of complexities and contrasts. As you know, Minor was one of my teachers. He also said, as I note in the introduction to my cyberbook, that "photographs can be outward expressions of inward states. They are about not just what something is, but rather, what else it is."

Much can be seen in this image of a
common object (this time of year).
Often, it's not just the photographer
mirrored in an image but our own image
reflected in what the photographer created
that moves me most.

A wonderful quote. And a photo to escape into. Nice.

I know full well why I look forward to each picture from you Patricia...because they stretch me. I take them around with me in my mind thinking about them. Today, I will see what I can find on Minor White.

I'm not sure why it was stressful since I have been away, I'll have to catch up. When I first saw this thumb it reminded me of the soldier's graves in France from WWII. Very cool abstract.
