Moon Dog

Tucson, AZ

This is a 46 degree Moon Dog, or halo, of refracted light from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
Because this halo was so large, I had to take two separate images and combine them together to get
the entire halo. If you look closely, you can see a couple of stars and the planet Mars within the
halo. Capella is the star at the 10 o'clock position towards the edge of the halo, Aldebaran is the
star at the 2 o'clock position towards the edge of the halo, and Mars is at the 6:30 position within the halo.

A very nice Moon Dog capture, Sam. Always neat to see one of these in the night sky. V

Very nice Sam, I was disappointed by the weather tonight but maybe this makes up for it!
