What a fantastic item to find. It coud be reinstated on Battery Place.

It's true, they used old cannons as a bollard to tie up smaller boats (not CalMac ferries obviously!), The cannons were put in an upright postition and buried into the ground to make it strong enough to secure boats' ropes. You can see that the 1/3 top of the cannon was painted in black whilst the 2/3 bottom was all rust, having been buried in the ground. I really hope the cannon will be saved for the Bute Museum.
