Dorothy captures a butterfly

We've just had a glorious time, Dorothy and I. Today was our last day together and we spent most of it at the Detroit Zoo. Dorothy had never been to a butterfly house before, so, as you can see in this photo, she was utterly enthralled. We had the perfect day with bright sun, blue skies, crisp clear air, and lovely autumn temperatures. The color was at its peak with most of the leaves still on the trees, and it sure didn't hurt that we were at the zoo, one of Detroit's most beautiful pieces of land. Not only that, it was Halloween so there were pumpkins, corn husks, witches and goblins everywhere...and lots of families with young children who were thoroughly enjoying themselves. After the zoo we went to my friend Pat Kolon's apartment where Dorothy was treated to an hour-long massage by Pat, one of the world's most gifted massage therapists (in my opinion). Now Dorothy is sitting here in my room listening to the CD she bought me the other night at Orchestra Hall. It is called "Inventions" and features Renaud Capucon on violin and his brother Gautier Capucon on cello. We'd heard Renaud as violin soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Friday night, and had been part of one of those musical experiences of a lifetime. This young man is astounding! We'd also heard William Bolcomb's Seventh Symphony performed for one of the few times since its premiere at Carnegie Hall in 2002, and were absolutely blown away by it. As I say, we have had a glorious time together, and I hope it is the first of many visits my dear friend from San Francisco will make to Detroit. I have LOTS more to show her!
