The pipes are open on both ends, the open side at the gourd can be closed by the thumb and thus every tone get bent, which makes this instrument remarkable. It is slightly bigger and louder than the Hmong version of this instrument (see below).

Die Bambusrohre sind auch am unteren Ende offen, so daß der Spieler mit dem Daumen am Kürbis das Rohr verschließen und so den Ton um einen Halbton verringern kann.
