The Lower Gate & The Barbican

Bardejov, Slovakia

The town fortification system is among the most elaborate and best preserved mediaval fortifications in Slovakia. Because of its significance, the systém is enlisted in the European Fund of Cultural Heritage.
The fortification system was also strengthened by semicircular horseshoe-shaped bastions. So-called Hruba(Thick) Bastion located on the eastern side of the town walls, was the largest.
Bastions built in the fabric of fortifications are as follows: the Prasna (Powder), Velka (Big), Cervena (Red),Pravouhla (Rectangular), Archivna (Record Office), Skolska (School), and Klastorska (Monastic) Bastions.

The Lower Gate & The Barbican origin goes back to the beginning of the 14th and 15th centuries.
It is a circular structure with loopholes, a water ditch and a drawbridge connecting it with a tower of the lower gate.
The wooden drawbridge was replaced by a stone one in the end of 1821.

I don't know about the fortifications, but there's some woman who appears in most of your shots. Most strange :)

Fantastic light and composition, very nice curving perspective ,make me wonder what is around the bend of that path.
Love that lamp against the blue sky, mounted on that lovely stone wall.
