As I listened to--experienced is more apt--this amazing electronic improvising band, I kept wondering how many of my European PBase friends have seen and heard this group. My guess is that some of you have, either as they are now or in a former incarnation. Tim Hodgkinson was "co-instigator" of the legendary British avant rock band Henry Cow from 1968-78. The other two members of today's Konk Pack, Brit Roger Turner on drums and German Thomas Lehn on ems-synthesizer, have been contemporary music improvisers in various bands for decades.
And I thought last night's trio was hard to describe! Konk Pack is simply impossible! As I told them after their set, when I closed my eyes they took me places I'd never even imagined existed. The ones I could put words to were 1) swirling into space, 2) sitting in the middle of New York City's largest noisiest traffic jam in history, and 3) being inside a bee hive while an insect carnival was going on. Absolutely incredible!!!
And now it is even later than last night. 3:13 a.m. according to the clock on my laptop. And tomorrow--sorry, TODAY--the final day and night of Edgefest, starts at noon with a parade led by BassDrumBone, then a concert at 2 p.m., followed by three more concerts at night. Sleep...I need sleep!
