This adult Roseate Spoonbill is from another nest and was in the process of raiding this nest. Adult birds never stop adding to their nests until it is completely abandoned. When they find a nest that is unprotected by an adult bird they will take material to use for their own nest and that is what brought on this attack. Of the four chicks in this nest one tried to chase away the attacking bird. The attacker grabbed the young bird's head and shook it violently. When the chick was released it fell to the bottom of the nest and did not raise it's head even when the parent bird returned. I thought it was killed in the attack but after several minutes passed the chick raised it's head again and seemed to recover nicely.
