Was visiting Smokey Mountain National park over the weekend and saw one up close. Very striking bird and was quite noisy as well. It was scolding us for being close to the tree it was eating berry's from.

your sight was much apprciated. I was not sure what he was so your pic's where needed. I did see a very large Pileated woodpecker. I don't know if they are here all the time or just pass through. But he was wonderful to see. Thank You
