Boats In Transit (1)v.2*
by Daniel Bollag

London, England

After seeing the image and reading the comments below,
bottles volunteered to offer his post-processing skills
to eliminate the "incriminated" elements of(f) the picture...

...and his opinion that even without the "streaks"
the image with all that traffic on and below the bridge
is perfectly "on-topic".

So the two of us now proudly present
our "international co-production"
*Boats in Transit(1)v.2.0*

Thanks a lot, Katherine: I know I can always count on your commenting, even when you're "running out of time"... Glad you like our "co-production"! -- db.

Beautiful image - I love the lights, colors, smooth water and blurred movement along the bridge! I like your other two entries a lot also, but I'm running out of time and I've commented on them in previous challenges :-)

Glad you like the image better now, Konstantin. And never mind bottles being faster than you: he has, anyway, been *my personal post-processing wizard* for a long time now (whose helpfulness, generosity and friendship I have come to appreciate enormously without ever having met him in person!). -- db.

I find it better now. Tryed to find something for criticism - but couldn't :-)).
Basically, I wanted to do the same but 'bottles' was more fast :-((

Works much better for me (no wonder)! Also is meeting the challenge theme without doubt! Great teamwork! Thanks Daniel and bottles

I am afraid I must go back to London to re-start taking this image: I shot versions without the streaks, but something like the ship to the right is in all the pictures I took of this view. I do, after reading your comment, Konstantin, agree with you on that boat (to which I had not given any thought before!). And I do thank you very much for having taken the time for an analysis of this photograph! -- db.

Daniel - I really like this picture - lighting, water surface, composition, exposure - nice done ! But for me, the lights-lines down in left corner, as well as ship on the right site, also do not work too well here. They bring movement into image but at the same time they bring a feeling of some incompletness. I tryed to imagine the picture without them - and I think it would be better. But this is my personal opinion.

It's interesting you mention those "lines of the lights in the left corner" about which I for myself have not made up my mind yet. I had not planned to include anything of that sort in my image. The boat entered my frame from below me *after* I had pushed the shutter button for starting the camera's timer (which I--when working with a tripod--use often instead of the cable-release I always carry with me but connect seldom); therefore the diaphragm opened many seconds later, with those lights starting *in the middle of nowhere* forming a sort of leading lines taking your eyes *out* of the image: both not really good elements in a photo; are they?... OTOH, those streaks are eye-catching and do somehow balance the image too, IMHO. And I, anyway, can't substitute one of the other pictures I took there because--you know what?--only those marks in question make the image on-topic for the challenge-theme chosen by you. ;-)) Anyway: Many thanks for your friendly comment, Franky! (And now I'd be very interested in reading other photographers' opinions on those "too abstract" lines, as you call them.) -- db.

Wow, this one is also great! I love how the surface of the water smoothes in these longe time exposures. The lights and colors are also fantastic. *The lines of the ligths inthe left corner IMHO are too abstract and do not work too well here in this image.

It may look still like the sea, but it's the River Thames, Arctic Fox. Many thanks for taking the time to comment; I am glad you like the image. -- db.

Beautiful photo. The city, the sea - this photo has everything.
