Greensburg, Kansas

My dad took this picture.. He has my OLD camera.. His hunting camp is in Greensburg Kansas. This is the result from the BIG tornado that hit there... Think it was a F5.

It's hard to believe the power of the wind. I almost grew up on the weekends in Barneveld WI. My aunt lived there and we went almost every weekend. One day in the mid 1980's it was gone (luckily my aunt had moved before). The tornado (strong F5) lifted the water tower and put debris under it and set it back down. It broke off 4 inch thick steel reinforced concrete. I drove back up there after the rebuild of it, and had no idea where I was..all the streets were changed. The big old 2 story houses were tipped off their foundations and broken, the new ones with very little wood in the walls were just gone.1 1/2- 2 miles from the path of the tornado all the insulation in attics was pulled toward the the path. This gallery brings a lot of thoughts back to that time. Well done.. .

I'm lost for words - such devastation.

It’s definitely a troubling picture, but always talking from a purely aesthetical point of view, I cannot help admiring the impressive presence of all the red elements also in this photo, there is a link with the others, where reds elements pop up here and there too; it makes the series homogeneous and really interesting.

Sad to see such devastation but of course the imagery here
helps bring that point home to us on the outside world.

I have experienced the power of two tornadoes. Their power is unbelievable. However, the ones we have in Kentucky are not near the size of the ones that they have in Kansas. Unbelievable power for sure.
