The Old Man of Storr

Isle of Skye, Scotland

I spent two days in Skye. One of the "must-go" places was obviously
the Old Man of Storr.

I started my climb to the Storr around 9 'o clock in the morning.
A little too late for fine phtography but a decent hour for tourists
like myself :) Still we were the first to start the climb. We were
so alone that was difficult to identify the place where to leave
the car :)

The forest that must be crossed to arrive to the base of the Storr
is a little scary. It is very dark (even at that time of the
morning). I was climbing with my girlfriend and she was very
scared. Not a sole could hear us there.

We hiked for little less than an hour and reached the base of the
Storr. As you leave the forest you see the massive formations in
the top of the hills.

There is a gate with a very discouraging warning message there. It
says that the formations are very unstable and rocks may fall. It
states that the place is very dangerous and no one should pass
that point. Of course we made the wise and mature decision, opened
the gate and up we went :D

On the way up we saw dozens of rabbits jumping in the green hills
Beautiful fellows :)

The climb is not very hard but the massive formations above your
head make you think twice about the warning you've just read. At this
point my girlfriend was becoming really terrified. At some point
in the ascend she said that she would stay foot and not move any
more.

I left her there for a while and wondered around taking some
snapshots. But after some minutes, for my luck, another couple passed
by us. That was what she needed to feel ok with the situation. We
were not the only crazy people hiking that crazy path after all.

We've been up there for one hour or two enjoing the impressive view
over Skye, taking photos and then started our descend. Then we
crossed many people climbing. What seemed to be the end of
the world one hour before was now turned into an amusement park
with kids, families and dogs after.

We had a good laughs reminding the fear that we had on the way up.

This photo is a bit of a classic. Anyway, here goes my version of
the massive formations of the Old Man of Storr. Hope you like it.

Amazing shot. The light is beautiful. Contrasty and nice colors.

You went all the way up!! I didn't manage to get there... the fog was so thick that I could barely see my feet! Fantastic shot, amazing light!
