This is a shot of a small PART of a hillside grassroots effort for cross memorials for the soldiers killed in Iraq.
There is a lot of controversy in the town of Lafayette because of this display not fitting into the rules that they have.
I saw this start up in November of 2006 with only a handful of crosses. By now it stretches for at least two
blocks on a grassy hillside. A large number sign which I didn't get in the picture displays a weekly updated
number of the dead, now displaying 3248, and supposedly there is one cross for every one. The hillside is
now covered with the rough white crosses, nearly one on top of the other.
