Coliseum, Stolbi, Macedonia

Stolbi, Macedonia

This well-preserved, small coliseum in southern Macedonia would have been a great place to watch a play. There were rooms under the seating which were explained as cages for lions, so the local people not only got to see Greek tragedies, but gladiator fights as well. A lot of the seats had the name of the owner very artfully inscribed in the stone. Contemplating the structure is my fellow student Dave Laws.
